  • Troyes & the Champagne

    Day 1 :

Arrival in Troyes in the morning.

In the afternoon, go off to discover the historical capital of the Champagne region, this authentic medieval city. Start your discovery with a short film presenting the history of the town, its transformation from Augustobona Tricassium to Troyes with the time traveler Isidore. Then, continue your exploration with a guided tour. Depending on your interests, opt for a special visit to discover the secrets of an unexpected heritage, or choose to visit the historical district of Saint-Jean-au-Marche with its timber frame houses dating from the 16th century, the typical “Ruelle des Chats”, the Mortier d’Or courtyard, and the St Madeleine church. You have a romantic soul? In this case, go for the guided tour “Troyes, 10 centuries of love and romanticism” and dive into the heart of the city where knights proclaim their passion to their ladies. Otherwise, choose to discover Troyes through the art of the Belle Epoque, or through its industrial and hosiery heritage from the 19th century. For the sporty ones, you also have the option of a guided tour on bicycle or Segway. Then, enjoy a visit of the museum of the hosiery-making industry, where you will have the opportunity to see well-preserved knitting machines, hosiery items dating from the 19th century, and testimonies of the daily life of hosiery workers. Savor a diner at a local restaurant in the city center of Troyes. Overnight stay.

    Day 2 :

    Breakfast at the hotel.

Start your day with a guided tour of the St-Pier St-Paul cathedral. Measuring 114 meters in length, 50 meters in width and 28.50 meters in height under the vaults, the cathedral is a fine example of Gothic architecture. Then, go on a private tour to the Champagne Road. First, stop in Ville-Sur-Arce, and enjoy a friendly picnic in the vineyards with dishes and Champagne with the Massin family. Winemakers from generation to generation, the Massin family-members will share with you their know-how and their expertise in the production of Champagne certified “high environmental value”. After this nice lunch, you would go by coach to the small town Les Riceys for a tasting of Champagne and Rosé des Riceys at the Morel Domain. There, you have the opportunity to participate in a blending workshop with the winegrowers in order to get to the birth of a wine batch and to discover the secrets of a production. Road back to Troyes. Dinner at the hotel. Overnight stay.

    Day 3 :

    Breakfast at the hotel.

In the morning, opt for a stroll on the Montgueux hill. Located about 12km west of Troyes, the hill of Montgueux is known for its champagne producing vines and its uninterrupted view of the city of Troyes and its surrounding communes. Or, choose to go to Fontvannes and Estissac, in the Pays d’Othe, to taste a good cider of the region, and discover the church of Saint-Alban, Saint-Liehaut church, the 17th century market hall, and the historic heritage of these small villages. Free time for lunch in one of those villages. In the afternoon, decide whether to go shopping in the factory shops of Troyes to enjoy excellent deals (up to 70% discount), or to opt for a “nature” afternoon at one of the lakes of the Forêt d’Orient Regional Nature Park. There, you will have the opportunity to sail, to fish, to swim, and to practice other water sports for a relaxing afternoon. Dinner at a restaurant in the city-center of Troyes. Overnight stay.
